Bill Wrigley's "Stornoway" Mansion in Lake Forest, Illinois

Another famous area home has entered the Chicago real estate market on the North Shore. Completed  in 1912, the 21 room mansion designed by Howard Van Doren Shaw will enter the Chicago real estate market listed at $16 million.  Reported on the blog Deal Estate by Dennis Rodkin of Chicago Magazine, the Italianate styled home was is owned by Bill Wrigley, great-grandson of William Wrigley Jr. founder of Wrigley Chewing Gum.  Originally, the 10 bedroom home was called “Stornoway” by owner Donald Rodick McLennan after his native Scotland’s hometown.  Howard Van D0ren Shaw was the architect (notable for designing many mansions in the Chicagoland area) of this historic mansion on Lake Michigan.  Mr. Wrigley has  lived at this Lake Forest location since purchasing the home in 2003 for $9.9 million.

Such is the life of then bachalor Bill Wrigley who is now one of the world’s richest people after selling his stake to Mars Candy in 2008.
