Our Green Metropolis: The Next 100 Years, is an upcoming program Thursday, November 5, 2009 5:00pm to 7:00pm dedicated to Daniel Burnham’s 1909 Plan of Chicago and the legacy of the regional green infrastructure it created.  At this reception and special program, partners from around the region will announce the next steps for key Green Legacy projects and how the region can become a green metropolis.

This year-long dedication to Daniel Burnham’s and others vision to the future of Chicago is being celebrated with help from many civic and charitable partners notably the Burnham Plan Centennial Committee, Chicago Wilderness, City of Chicago, Mayor Daley’s Nature and Wildlife Committee and others.  Mayor Daley has long been a supporter of green initiative within the city and to his credit, now a leading city for constructing the most green building in Chicago that are LEED certified by the USGBC nationally.

The Burnham Plan Centennial year has been a catalyst for multiple projects that knit together a green infrastructure for Chicago’s future. From closing gaps in the 1000-mile trail and greenway system, to acres of new public space and more than 100 communities that have signed on to the Greenest Region Compact, this anniversary has shined a new light on the urgency of protecting the open space that gives our region an unsurpassed quality of life. Join public officials and the Burnham Plan Centennial Committee to celebrate success and bring together partners who will carry forward the next generation of a green infrastructure vision.
