Builder Magazine 2010 Hearthstone BUILDER Humanitarian Award

December 21, 2009

Every community has local stars – and builders who seem to spend as much time helping others as running their own business may go unnoticed. They give money, they give time and they give of themselves. Often, the charitable work of these builders goes unrecognized, except by the people and organizations they help.

It is too late to nominate a builder you think should qualify for this award but if you plan to attend the 2010 International Builder Show in Las Vegas in January, you can see who will honored in person!

BUILDER magazine and HEARTHSTONE, together with founding sponsor Kohler Company, joined forces to create an award program to recognize builders who go the extra mile to help others. Now in its 11th year, the Hearthstone BUILDER Humanitarian Award continues to honor builders who have demonstrated a lifetime commitment to making their communities a better place to work and live.

The winners of the award and their charities are honored at an award dinner during the International Builders’ Show and in a cover story in BUILDER magazine. In addition, the builders’ charities receive cash donations from the Hearthstone BUILDER Award Foundation. The Award was first given in January 2000 and to date has contributed over $4 million to various charities. The Hearthstone BUILDER Humanitarian Award is the single largest charitable award program in the homebuilding industry and the award is the most coveted in the housing industry.

All for-profit builders or lot developers are eligible as either individuals or companies for the Hearthstone BUILDER Humanitarian Awards. Builders may nominate themselves or be nominated by other builders or by the charities, nonprofits, or government organizations they have helped.

Nominee’s charitable involvement is measured against the following criteria by a panel of distinguished judges, many of who have received the Hearthstone BUILDER Humanitarian Award.

Award Criteria:

  • Lifetime Commitment
  • Depth of Commitment
  • Significance of builder’s contributions to community
  • Inspirational value
  • Significance of charity
  • Ability of charities of use the award
