Ryland Homes Makes Dream A Reality for Couple at Lancaster Falls in Volo

January 24, 2010

As a bartender, Krissy Yurko is well-known for mixing up a top-notch cocktail that never fails to satisfy. But as a homeowner, she felt about as frustrated as a martini poured into a shot glass. Until, that is, she and her husband Rick discovered Ryland Homes and its Lancaster Falls community of single-family homes in Volo.

The couple had been living in a small, older ranch in Lake Villa. But for years, Krissy dreamed about her “forever home”—a newly built, spacious residence crafted by a reputable builder and set in a scenic locale that would not only shorten their job commutes and bring them closer to loved ones but provide extra elbow room.

“Our house was only about 600 square feet large, which was hardly enough space for Rick and I plus our two dogs and two cats,” said Krissy, 27. “We’ve been thinking about raising a family someday, so I yearned for a new construction home with modern features. I had a dream and set a goal toward achieving it that I never gave up on.”

Krissy knew that finding her ideal abode would require more than socking away her hard-earned tips and working two jobs for a few years. It would also involve doing her homework to find the right builder and the right location. So she and her husband began house hunting in the area, visiting subdivisions and builders from Lakemoor to Wauconda. They also asked friends and relatives for referrals. And the name that came up more often than any other was Ryland Homes.

“Our friend recently purchased a townhome at Emerald Bay in Round Lake from Ryland, and she raved about the builder,” Krissy said.

After researching Ryland on the Internet, the couple decided to visit Lancaster Falls in Volo. They were quite impressed with the friendly and helpful personalities of the sales staff and the generously outfitted models. But it was one floorplan in particular that caught their eye: The Fairfield, a two-story design with a large, open layout that would essentially triple their living space with its 1,896 square feet.

“This home offered us tremendous bang for our buck,” said Rick, 29, who works in the construction industry and prides himself on knowing what to look for in a builder. “The kitchen opens to a sizeable family room, there’s a two-story foyer with an upstairs loft, and it includes a full basement.”

While the home itself had virtually everything they desired, the Yurkos were worried about obtaining financing for their dream purchase, particularly considering Krissy’s service industry profession where tips are hard to financially substantiate. But that’s where Ryland Homes rose to the occasion—namely Lancaster Falls sales professionals Teri Sanchez and Dave Hinks and financing specialist Debbie Ward, who worked with Krissy and Rick through the entire process.

“Teri and Dave were so comforting and reassuring. They treated us like we were part of the family. And Debbie was extremely helpful from the very beginning, presenting a good choice of easy-to-understand loan options,” said Krissy. “By offering in-house financing, Ryland made the entire process easy with one-stop shopping.”

With financing in place, the Yurkos pulled the trigger and Ryland began constructing their Fairfield.

“The Yurkos did a nice job of customizing their home by choosing several options and personalizing their interiors,” said Dave. “For one, they extended the family room an extra four feet. Also, they upgraded the cabinetry and countertops in the kitchen and added vaulted ceilings in the master bedroom and master bath. They were thrilled with the finished home.”

The couple closed in late 2009 and were able to ring in the New Year in their new home—now proud residents of Lancaster Falls.

“Ryland even had our home finished a month earlier than expected, which was a nice Christmas present,” said Rick. “We can’t say enough about their wonderful customer service and commitment to our total satisfaction.”

Besides the kitchen, “where I’m looking forward to cooking a lot for our family and friends, my favorite room so far is the master bath, where I enjoy pampering myself after a busy day,” Krissy said. “And my husband loves his ‘man cave’ in the garage, where he’s planning on setting up a workshop.”

The Yurkos’ pets also appreciate the extra space their new home provides—especially Daytona and Gage, the couple’s black coonhound labs.

“Rick and Krissy chose a great homesite that benefits from being close to the models and main entrance for easy access. Plus, they’re kitty corner from a naturally preserved wetland area, offering fantastic views of Mother Nature,” said Teri. “Also, they’re on a curvilinear street that gives the homes on that block a gentle turn and visually appealing look.”

“Once the weather warms up, we’re looking forward to getting out and meeting more of our neighbors, exploring the neighborhood and enjoying the on-site trails and park,” Krissy said. “This is an absolutely wonderful community and a great place to raise children, which is our next dream.”

Saylor Stam, vice president of sales and marketing, Ryland Homes Chicago Division, said she admired the Yurkos’ commitment to their vision and the due diligence they invested into their home search.

“The reality is that today’s home buyers are more educated than ever, doing their homework online before driving out to the communities,” said Stam. “Our customers are telling us they’re seeking out Ryland because of our financial stability, personal service and reputation for innovation in home building. They know they can count on us to deliver a quality home.”

For added peace of mind, “we also include a mortgage protection program—called the Ryland Reassurance Program,” Stam said. “For a designated time frame, your mortgage payment, up to $2,500, would be made for you if you lost your job. It’s based on involuntary job loss and unemployment benefits eligibility. This program has been well received by the public.”

Stam noted that Lancaster Falls—where a total of 311 single-family homes are planned—is now nearly 50 percent sold. Much of this charming, one-of-a-kind community’s appeal is its picturesque, natural setting and wide array of amenities enjoyed by residents. Highlights include two playgrounds, a basketball court, pavilion with a picnic area, walking trails, four scenic ponds, carefully preserved wetland areas and open space, and lush landscaping across the well-maintained, 167-acre property.

Additionally, Lancaster Falls provides a quiet and tranquil Lake County locale, yet is conveniently accessible to numerous popular destinations, including nearby stores and restaurants, Lake Zurich shopping within a short drive, and four Metra stations only minutes away. What’s more, parents can send their children to highly desired area schools within district #118, among them Robert Crown Elementary, Wauconda Middle School and Wauconda High.

“Recently, our architects have been refocusing on the evolving needs and special requests of today’s homebuyer. As a result, we’ve introduced several new and unique floor plans in the last six months at many of our Ryland communities,” said Stam.

“These new designs anticipate the needs of first-time home buyers and offer unique feature combinations such as a three-car garage on a smaller square foot home,” Stam said.
