All-Day Party in Chicago is BYOB (Bring Your Own Bicycle)

June 17, 2010

Got a bike? Hop on it on Friday and join the Chicago celebration.

Mayor Daley’s Bike to Work Rally is a full day of activities dedicated to making the city the best big city for bicycling.

Sorry, boss, I can't come in to work today. I am attending the all-day Bike to Work Rally at Daley Plaza!

Hosted at Daley Plaza, 50 W. Washington, the day begins at 7:30 a.m. where bike commuters will get a free continental breakfast and Bike Chicago t-shirt. You have to imagine how quickly these will fly, so get there early.

From 7:30 to 8:30 a.m., there will beĀ  entertainment by Environmental Encroachment, Chicago’s Magic Circus Band, an awards presentation for this year’s most influential in the biking community and a media challenge with media personality.

If the bike ride to work wasn’t enough to get you in shape, check out Fitness Day, a program committed to fitness that occurs every year on the third Friday in June at Daley Plaza.

At 8:30 a.m., the Mayor’s Fitness Council Demo Team will present a cardio dancing class and demonstration.

Really motivated? Then keep it going at 10 a.m. with a high-intensity boot camp workout.

Not as motivated? The Goose Island beer garden opens at 11 a.m., and the Goose Island Brewpub will serve food from 10:30 am. to 7 p.m.

At noon, check out Schwinntonation, a bicycle band from Chicago that makes music using bicycles and bike parts.

From 1 to 4 p.m., you can get a chance to test your biking skills during the Chicago Bike Polo Exposition Games.

You’ve spent your day exercising, it’s time to reward yourself. The Goose Island Happy Hour goes from 4:30 to 7 p.m. and will feature The Pawn Shop Band, a Chicago area cover band that plays all kinds of music.

Sounds like a great day. Wait, this is a Bike to Work Rally. When does work fit in?
