Volunteer for FreeGeek, Go Home with a FreekBox

June 17, 2010

Here’s an interesting opportunity: Give a little of your time, get a free computer.

FreeGeek Chicago is a not-for-profit organization that does most of its work with volunteers who take apart donated computers, tests the parts and create refurbished systems called FreekBoxes.

When you participate in an Earn-A-Box program through FreeGeek Chicago, you will be helping others while earning a FreekBox for yourself!

Volunteers in the Earn-A-Box program:

* Learn about the environmental impact of e-waste

* Tear computers apart and learn about their components

* Test individual computer parts, cards and peripherals

* Build computers from good components

* Learn about and install the GNU/Linux operating system

* Have fun and get a free computer!

To join the program, visit FreeGeek Chicago, 3411 W. Diversey Ave., Chicago during any OpenBuild hour time. New volunteers should arrive for orientation 30 minutes before the starting time.
