Will That Be One or Two Mansions With Your Beach?

985 Sheridan Road, Highland Park

You have to see this house.

And the one next to it.

Blockstopper.com says this home, at 985 Sheridan Road in Highland Park, was used as the exterior of Jake Ryan’s house in John Hughes’ 1984 movie, “Sixteen Candles.”

I loved that movie. I love this house. It looks like a home on the California coastline, yet it’s right here outside Chicago.

Look at that kitchen!

The 11,000-square-foot lakefront home is on the market for $6.4 million.

Massive expansions and renovations were completed in 2002, including the implementation of Smart House technology like a gated entry and remote video security system.

The beautifully landscaped grounds include terraces, bronze sculptures and fountains, as well as 120 feet of private beach accessed by a spectacular terraced walkway.

Can't imagine getting work done with that view.

The three-story home has three bedrooms on the second level, two of the main level and one in one of the three separate basements that provide 7,000 square feet of living space alone.

There are nine bathrooms and two half baths, a third-level office with breathtaking views of the lake, two kitchens and a six-car elevator garage.

It's better than a hotel resort.

There’s also an indoor pool with a mosaic floor, a home gym with a sauna, steam room and hot tub, a music room, a solarium/media room with a cathedral glass ceiling that has a retractable shade system and a bedroom suite that has a private sitting room, an amazing bathroom and outstanding lake views. And that’s not even the master.

It sounds like a resort hotel.

The house has previously been on the market for as much s $8.930 million. Its tax bill in 2009: $115,017.

From left: 975 and 985 Sheridan Road are for sale for a combined $11.970 million.

By the way, the house next door — 975 Sheridan Road — is for sale for $5.570 million.

It is also beautiful.

It has five bedrooms, five-and-a-half baths, a ballroom-sized great room and a third-floor captain’s nest studio.

And if you buy both houses you’ll own 220 feet of private sandy beach and have one helluva tax bill.
