Green Subdivision to Break Ground in July

July 18, 2010

The nation’s first community of custom-designed net-zero energy single-family homes will break ground in New Lenox in July for two model homes that will be built Green and certified as LEED buildings.

The homes in Prairie Ridge Estates will be built by Energy Smart Home Builders using solar panels, geothermal power, wind turbines and other technologies to avoid having utility bills.

The homes’ extraordinary energy efficiency coupled with other green building strategies will enable all the homes in Prairie Ridge Estates to achieve the prestigious “Platinum” level for the US Green Building Council’s  LEED green homebuilding certification.

While net zero energy homes have been constructed previously, this is the first planned community of custom-designed net-zero energy single-family homes.

After the groundbreaking for the two model homes, construction will occur with completion scheduled before the end of the year. Learn more about the homes at the Alliance for Environmental Sustainability web site.

Green building is helping the residential building market resurgence, and it’s happening right here in the Chicagoland area with Prairie Ridge Estates.
