Free Chicago-Area Events Fun For Kids and Adults

If you’ve got kids and want something to do this weekend, and future weekends, check out these free events around Chicagoland.

Every Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Lakeshore Learning offers free crafts-for-kids events at all their stores.

Upcoming workshops:

*August 14: My License Plate: After kids create their own personalized license plates they can attach them to their bikes.

*August 21: Homework Helper: This folder will help your student get ready for the new school year.

*August 28: Royal Crown: The crowns the kids make will definitely be fit for your little prince or princess.

Each month, Lowe’s holds free Build and Grow Clinics for kids, and this month there are two.

*August 14: Kids can make a beetle-shaped bug box.

*August 28: Kids will participate in a school bus project that has a secret compartment.

All participants will get a free apron, a pair of goggles, a project-themed patch, a certificate of merit when they finish and a coupon for a free Frosty at Wendy’s.

More than 15,000 people are expected to attend the 8th annual Wood Dale Prairie Fest from Friday, August 13 through Sunday, August 15.

The Fest will include a carnival, a pet parade, lots of food and a fireworks show.

A Master Gardener presentation will take place in the Bingo Tent from 6 to 9 p.m. on Friday, and there will be live music throughout the weekend, including American English, the Beatles Tribute Band, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. on Sunday.

Need to shop at IKEA? Well, kids eat free at the Schaumburg store through Sunday, August 15, and there is no purchase necessary.

Children under age 12 can choose any three kid-sized items including mac and cheese, yogurt, cookies and more, and adults don’t even have to buy anything.

The Chicago Air and Water Show will take off Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the North Avenue Beach lakefront.
