Allstate Insurance Increasing Illinois Renter Rates

August 14, 2010

If you get your renter’s insurance in Illinois through Allstate, you are not going to like this story. It has a consolation at the end, though.

Starting August 16, Allstate Corp. is raising its renter’s insurance by an average of 16.8 percent in the state of Illinois.

Officials from the Northbrook-based company, who say they haven’t increased renter’s insurance in the state for 10 years, report that Illinois renter’s will generally see a $1 to $5 increase on their bills each month.

Your stuff is valuable whether you own your home or rent it, and renter’s insurance is an important safety net.

If you have a policy with Allstate, don’t despair, there is that consolation: Renters who sign up for another Allstate product, such as car insurance, and who use the Allstate Easy Pay Plan can save up to 25 percent on their renter’s insurance.

So all you have to do is buy a car and insure it through Allstate, and you’ll actually save money on your renter’s insurance in Illinois.
