NBA star Dwyane Wade is giving back to his hometown community in Chicago.

Dwyane Wade gives out backpacks filled with supplies at last year's Wade's World Weekend School Supply Giveaway.

Thursday marks the start of Wade’s World Weekend, a four-day fundraising event that will benefit local Chicago community organizations, including the Wade’s World Foundation.

Wade’s World Weekend includes:

*Thursday, August 19: Carnival Cruise Lines Benefit Dinner at the Trump International Hotel, 401 N. Wabash Ave.; 6:30 to 10:3o p.m.; featuring a performance by Grammy Award Nominee Melanie Fiona

*Friday, August 20: Bowling party hosted by Wade at 10 Pin Bowling Lounge, 330 N. State St.; 7:30 p.m.; red-carpet walk at 7 p.m.

*Saturday, August 21: Wade’s World Youth Summit; Wade and friends talk about major issues facing Chicago teens with invited youth groups.

Then, 2nd Annual “D. Wade’s Chicago Has Talent Showcase” at DePaul’s Merle Reskin Theatre, 60 E. Balbo Dr.; 6 to 9 p.m.

*Sunday, August 22: Wade’s World Weekend School Supply Giveaway for invited groups only.

Dwyane Wade was born and raised in the Robbins area and graduated from Richards High School in Oak Lawn in 2000.

He entered the NBA in 2003 and led the Miami Heat to its first NBA Championship — and was named NBA Finals MVP — in 2006, the same year he was named Sports Illustrated Athlete of the Year.

Wade’s World Foundation was formed to provide support to community-based organizations that help kids in at-risk situations live positive lives.

“Chicago is my home and it will always have a special place in my heart,” said Wade. “The Wade’s World Weekend is all about giving back to the city that helped raise me. I want to make sure the Wade’s World Foundation makes a positive footprint within the Chicagoland community. Our mission is to educate kids and help them understand that an education can open the door to opportunity and to a better life.”
