Wonder if Winner’s Mail will be Forwarded to MSI

August 25, 2010

How would you like to call the Museum of Science and Industry your Chicago home?

More than 1,500 people applied for the opportunity to spend a Month at the Museum, where the winner will get to live at the MSI full time from October 20 through November 18.

In exchange for complete access to the museum, private quarter’s on the museum’s office level and $10,000, the grand-prize winner will be expected to interact with museum guests as well as blog, tweet and post videos about the experience.

The winner will also get a package of tech gadgets, including a notebook computer and camera, and an honorary lifetime membership to the Museum of Science and Industry.

The applicants, who range in age from 18 to 80, are from all 50 states and from as far away as Australia and Antarctica.

Museum officials will choose the semi-finalists this week. After interviewing them, three finalists will be chosen, and the public will get to vote for their favorite in September.

It seems like a big job, actually. Contestants have to agree to have very limited contact with the outside world during the residence period and can’t have any visitors when the museum is closed to the public. You have to have great writing skills, be Web savvy and know how to work a camera.

And, you must interact and socialize with the masses at the Museum every day … with a smile.

The payoff is great if you are a science fan, however. That person will be living and breathing science 24/7 for 30 days with access to rarely seen areas of the 14-acre, 77-year-old Museum.

And it’s all rent free.

Stay tuned to for information on finalists and where and when to vote.
