Activities For All Ages This Holiday Weekend

The Naperville Jaycees Last Fling is a community festival over Labor Day weekend that gives families one more chance to let loose before the end of summer.

There will be a carnival, live entertainment, food vendors, business expo booths and more.

A Labor Day parade will take place on Monday starting at 10 a.m. in downtown Naperville.

Please bring non-perishable food donations to the parade; Clark’s Car Care will be collecting donations on behalf of Loaves & Fishes Community Pantry.

*Friday, Sept. 3; 5 to 11 p.m.

*Saturday, Sept. 4; 10 a.m. – 11 p.m.

*Sunday, Sept. 5; 10 a.m. – 11 p.m.

*Monday, Sept. 6; 10 a.m. – 6 p.m

The 32nd Annual Chicago Jazz Festival is the longest running lakefront music festivals in the city and a tradition on Labor Day weekend.

The fest’s mission is to showcase Chicago’s jazz talent alongside national and international artists for an audience of all ages.

There are more than 50 performances slated; you can download a free iPhone or Droid app that will allow you to keep track of all the performances.

*Friday, Sept. 3; Chicago Cultural Center; 12 to 3 p.m.

*Friday, Sept. 3; Millennium Park, Jay Pritzker Pavilion; 4 to 9:30 p.m.

*Saturday, Sept. 4; Grant Park; 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.

*Sunday, Sept. 5; Grant Park; 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Just in time for for the first NFL kickoff, kids can make a football display for free at all local Home Depot stores on Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon.

Home Depot hosts these free workshops on the first Saturday of each month that teach do-it-yourself skills and tool safety. In addition to the project, each kid receives a kid-sized orange apron and an achievement pin.

Every Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Lakeshore Learning Centers offer free crafts for budding artists.

Here are September’s themes:

*September 4: Pop-up books filled with their favorite things.

*September 11: Vibrant wall hangers so they can display their artwork.

*September 18: Pet turtles with collage-covered shells.

*September 25: Pouch to store your pencils and other classroom tools.
