September 04, 2010

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society has recognized Annie Caltabiano, a REALTOR® with @properties, as its 2010 Woman of the Year. Ms. Caltabiano raised more than $90,831 during a 10-week period through various fundraisers, corporate gifts and private donations. She participated in the campaign in honor of her husband, Joe Caltabiano, who is a leukemia survivor. Mr. Caltabiano is a senior vice president with mortgage banker Guaranteed Rate, Inc.

Eighteen candidates from Illinois participated in The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s 2010 Man & Woman of the Year campaign raising more than $640,000, the highest total ever raised in the state.

“This was a great experience,” said Caltabiano. “I am proud to part of an incredible organization and a community of people who supported my efforts to raise money to find a cure.”

Caltabiano and the other 17 candidates raised funds in honor of the Boy & Girl of the Year, Griffin Maks, age 4, and Rachel Williams, age 8. Griffin is currently undergoing treatment for leukemia and Rachel is a survivor.

In 2010, the Man & Woman of the Year campaign drew 642 dedicated candidates in more than 50 cities around the United States and Canada. Candidates are judged solely on a philanthropic basis.

”On behalf of our board, our volunteers, our researchers and the people we serve, there are no words sufficient enough to express our appreciation and complete amazement of the success achieved by these 18 remarkable candidates,”  said Pam Swenk, Executive Director of LLS. “We are honored they selected The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society as the beneficiary of their tremendous efforts and applaud them for their help in creating a world without cancer.”
