Hollywood Pumping More Revenue into Chicago

September 18, 2010

It’s more “Lights, Camera, Action,” for Chicago.

The new television drama “Ride-Along” is a FOX show that has been filming in Chicago since July. It’s a police drama that follows Chicago police detectives while they work the streets.

Shawn Ryan

The show, which was created by Rockford native Shawn Ryan and stars Chicago native Jennifer Beals, is expected to generate $25 million in economic activity and create more than 400 Illinois jobs.

“’Ride-Along’ is great example of how the film industry creates good Illinois jobs and improves our economy,” said Governor Quinn. “The state’s strengthened film tax credit demonstrates our commitment to growing this industry and creating more opportunities for people to work.”

Illinois offers a 30 percent tax credit to filmmakers for money spent on Illinois goods and services, including wages paid to Illinois residents. The tax credit had previously been 20 percent.

The pilot episode of “Ride-Along” was filmed in Chicago in April and picked up as a series by 20th Century Fox Television in May.

The show is expected to premiere midseason on FOX.
