Real Estate and Life Insurance Opportunities in Moline

October 19, 2010

If you are interested in purchasing Moline real estate, there’s a program that could help you become a homeowner.

The City of Moline is offering Homebuyer Assistance Program that will help low-income families purchase a home in the town located about three hours west of Chicago.

The program, which is being funded through the Illinois Housing Development Authority (IHDA), provides home buyers with a 0 percent deferred forgivable loan of $8,696 for down payment and closing costs.

Andrew and Jean Sill, who live on 10th Street, were Moline's recent Residential Neighbors of the Month

There is also up to $26,400 available for rehabilitation assistance.

To qualify, home buyers must:

*Be at or below 80 percent of the area median income

*Attend two home-buyer classes on credit, budget counseling, pre-purchase and post-purchase counseling

*Have at least $1,000 for a down payment, plus expenses for things like home inspections before closing

*Be approved for a conventional or FHA 30-year, fixed-rate mortgage by a lender approved to work with IHDA programs.

The city of Moline Homebuyer Assistance Program has helped more than 50 families buy a home since 2007.

“The homebuyer assistance program can open the home ownership door for many Moline families who otherwise may not be able to afford a home.” said Liliana Rodriguez, Grant Coordinator.

The Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company is giving away free $50,000 term life insurance policies to benefit the children of working families.

MassMutual pays all insurance premiums on the policies as part of LifeBridge, the company’s national philanthropic free life insurance program.

The insurance company has a goal to give away $1 billion in free term life insurance coverage through its LifeBridge program.

“LifeBridge will help bridge the gap between the financial realities Illinois hard-working families face and their desire to make a better life for their children,” said John Budish, a financial services representative with MassMutual Financial Group.
