Chicago Conference to Address Affordable Housing

Governor Pat Quinn and members of the Illinois Housing Development Authority will spend Monday at Chicago’s Navy Pier talking about the importance of affordable housing.

The 2010 Governor’s Conference on Affordable Housing will discuss ways to work together during these trying financial times to:

Illinois Governor Pat Quinn will present a keynote address in Chicago on Monday on the importance of affordable housing.

*Stabilize communities through neighborhood revitalization projects, homeownership programs, foreclosure prevention efforts and more.

*Strengthen sustainability efforts with renewable energy, green building, community-based housing for people with disabilities and more.

*Maximize expanded funding opportunities.

*Build on past successes.

The event will be filled with roundtable discussions, sessions on housing topics and food. Then, following the day-long conference, three awards will be presented through the Illinois Affordable Housing Awards Program at the Governor’s Award Announcement and Reception from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Grand Ballroom of Navy Pier.

The first-ever award ceremony will highlight the diverse communities of Illinois and will be divided by geographic location:

*Metropolitan Chicago

*Cities outside of Metro Chicago with populations above 50,000

*Rural/Small Cities/Non-Metropolitan Areas
