Artifex Builders Wins Gold for Chicago Condo Conversion

November 17, 2010

Chicagoland Real Estate Forum congratulates Artifex Builders for winning a Gold Key Award in the category of “Excellence in Remodeling Whole House under $200,000” for a condo redevelopment at 333 W. Hubbard in Chicago.

The design goal was to combine two condo units into one large, European contemporary unit for a world-traveling young professional and his fiancée. The couple enjoys hosting parties and serving wine from their extensive wine collection and wanted to create a gallery-like atmosphere for their art collection. The owner’s emphasis was on “cool” for the finishes and ambiance.

Artifex Builders accomplished these goals by installing an open kitchen/dining room plan with streamlined Pogen Pahl cabinetry from Germany, and low-voltage spotlights and multi-spot, low-voltage lights with specific beam spreads to illuminate the couple’s art work.

Steps away from the kitchen is a huge temperate and humidity controlled wine cellar that stores the homeowner’s 2,200 bottles of wine. The “coolness” factor continues in the bathroom with a sleek spa bathroom featuring a stand-alone tub, a walk-in shower with Kohler body sprays and Mr. Steam, and three-quarter thick, 24” x 12” limestone from Indiana on the walls of the entire bathroom!

The greatest challenge was insulating the party noise from the unit below! Artifex Builders installed a unique sound barrier consisting of sound-deadening QuietFoam and Quiet Underlayment substrate on the lightweight concrete floors, and then floated an oak riff hardwood floor on the materials.

The Home Builders Association of Greater Chicago Key Awards were created in 1972 to recognize excellence in housing design, architecture, interior merchandising, remodeling and landscaping. It has since evolved into one of the premier housing programs in the country.
