Great Rooms Wins Gold for Arnott Kitchen Renovation

November 17, 2010

Chicagoland Real Estate Forum congratulates Great Rooms Designers & Builders for winning a Gold Key Award in the category of “Excellence in Remodeling Kitchen under $75,000” for the Arnott residence’s room addition.

This clients are empty-nesters who purchased their high-end home, which was custom built in 2000 for another family, back in 2003 and wanted to give it a “face-lift.”

Great Rooms renovated their kitchen, along with their mud room and baths, to make the house comparable to something that would be built in 2010. In the kitchen and butler’s pantry, we kept most of the original cabinet boxes but replaced all of the cabinet doors with custom built ones from our carpentry shop, added end panels where applicable, trim details including crown molding on the uppers and a valence detail above the sink, and soft close drawer and door fittings.  We replaced the existing counter tops with natural stone, installed a glass mosaic tile back splash along with new plumbing fixtures, light fixtures including pendants over the island and commercial grade appliances including a wine refrigerator in the butler’s pantry.

The biggest design challenge involved using the original cabinet boxes in order to contain the project cost.

The renovation was a complete success. The client is thrilled and the house looks like something that was custom designed to reflect their personal style and taste.

The Home Builders Association of Greater Chicago Key Awards were created in 1972 to recognize excellence in housing design, architecture, interior merchandising, remodeling and landscaping. It has since evolved into one of the premier housing programs in the country.
