Great Rooms Wins Gold for Kompare Kitchen Renovation

November 17, 2010

Chicagoland Real Estate Forum congratulates Great Rooms Designers & Builders for winning a Gold Key Award in the category of “Excellence in Remodeling Kitchen under $75,000” for the Kompare residence’s room addition.

The client is a growing family that had outgrown their current house and decided to either move or add on. After perusing the real estate market, they decided that their existing house and location offered everything that they wanted, except enough space and a current level of finish. That’s when Great Rooms got involved.

What the current house lacked … a generous kitchen and breakfast room, open great room/kitchen relationship and first-floor office … was rectified by bumping out the back of the house approximately 280 square feet as follows: 2 feet off the back of the family room; 8’6” off the breakfast room and 9’6” off the existing dining room to create a new 9’6”x13’ office. In doing so, we were able to incorporate floor-to-ceiling windows and French doors in the great room and breakfast room to take advantage of the incredible views of the backyard; build out a new, custom, gourmet kitchen with all of the modern amenities; and replace the existing gas with a full masonry, wood-burning fireplace in the great room.

The client is thrilled with the renovation. In their own words taken from an e-mail toward the end of construction, “We’re SOO excited about the new space, and we’re really feeling like things are getting back to normal. We absolutely LOVE it! Everything is turning out beautifully so far … even better than we had expected. Thank you!!”

The Home Builders Association of Greater Chicago Key Awards were created in 1972 to recognize excellence in housing design, architecture, interior merchandising, remodeling and landscaping. It has since evolved into one of the premier housing programs in the country.
