John Robert Wiltgen Design Wins Gold for Highland Park Sports Court

November 17, 2010

Chicagoland Real Estate Forum congratulates John Robert Wiltgen Design Inc. for winning a Gold Key Award in the category of “Excellence for Remodeling Residential Specialty/Special Projects over $300,000” for a sports addition to a Highland Park home.

The challenge was to add a sports addition to the house that was 40 percent more space than the original 12,000-square-foot home designed and built by our firm 12 years ago.

The room addition included an indoor basketball court with a motorized batting cage raised and lowered on demand from the 280-foot-high ceiling, a skybox, locker room, powder room, exercise room and rooftop terrace accessed from the master bedroom.

As a result of this massive structure, the landscape was also modified to include Bluestone terraces and walkways, Lannon stone stairs that lead from the formal gardens to a more casual park-like setting. The stairs are flanked by stone retaining walls. This addition has been created as a space to keep the family and friends together and idea for entertaining on a grand scale.

The architect on this project was Orren Pickell Designers & Builders.

The Home Builders Association of Greater Chicago Key Awards were created in 1972 to recognize excellence in housing design, architecture, interior merchandising, remodeling and landscaping. It has since evolved into one of the premier housing programs in the country.
