Merit Homes Wins Gold for Getz Custom Home

November 17, 2010

Chicagoland Real Estate Forum congratulates Merit Homes for winning a Gold Key Award in the category of “Excellence in New Construction; 6,501 square feet and over” for its construction of the Getz family home.

Design shall be cost efficient. Main body of house to be symmetrical and designed in a Mediterranean style. Challenge to design: an 11’6″ first floor to fit within the 35′ building height restriction. Creating a house of this proportion and not making it appear overpowering to the scale of the neighborhood.

The design of the interior shall allow for types of living and entertaining that the family conducts. Areas shall be divided into public and private. Breaking down large spaces into smaller, repetitive elements visually scales volume to a more comfortable level. The benefit of the design is ease of construction, understated, elegant curb appeal, continuity in historic appeal and a blend with the neighborhood.

The architect on this project was Alberts Associates Architecture.

The Home Builders Association of Greater Chicago Key Awards were created in 1972 to recognize excellence in housing design, architecture, interior merchandising, remodeling and landscaping. It has since evolved into one of the premier housing programs in the country.
