Contest Calls for the Baking of Chicago Architecture

Have you always wanted to be an architect like Frank Lloyd Wright? Grab your apron because here’s your chance.

Pastry Chicago is hosting its fifth annual Gingerbread House Competition, and this year’s theme is “Frank Lloyd Wright architecture.”

The contest is open to amateur bakers and students. No graduates of culinary or pastry programs allowed. There will be no baking at the competition, just set up of your house.

Everything must be edible, except for any interior lighting and the display board.

Each contest participant will receive a free French Pastry Experience gift certificate, a certificate of participation and a gift certificate to Old Orchard Mall.

First- through fifth-place winners will also take home various KitchenAid brand products.

No one will take home their creations: The gingerbread houses will be on display through the holidays at the Sofitel Hotel.

The event will also include baking demonstrations of holiday desserts by Chef Nicholas Lodge, an instructor at the French Pastry School who created one of the official wedding cakes for Lady Diana and Prince Charles. Ooh, la la!
