Two Illinois Cities Ranked As Best e-Governments

Quiz: What are the two most digitally connected cities in Illinois?

Answer: Read on and find out!

The e.Republic’s Center for Digital Government and Digital Communities Program has released its 10th annual Digital Cities Survey, which recognizes municipalities that use technology to better serve their residents and businesses, despite financial challenges.

The survey was open to any city with a population of 30,000 or more, and then it was broken down to the top 10 by population.

In the population of 250,000 or more category, Chicago came in at No. 5. Pretty nice, considering our fare city didn’t even make the list last year.

The only other Illinois town to hit the survey was Schaumburg. With a population of 76,000, the western suburb ranked No. 9 in the 75,000-124,999 population category.

Schaumburg moved up from No. 10 last year and has been on the list six out of the last eight years.

“This year’s winners continue to demonstrate the transformative power of information technology,” said Digital Communities Director Todd Sander. “Economic conditions are bringing about a fundamental rethinking of local government structures and support strategies.

“It is clear from the results that digital technology is a critical factor in helping organizations not only maintain, but actually improve service delivery when faced with fewer employees and smaller budgets.”

The winners will be honored at a special awards ceremony in Denver, Colorado on Thursday.
