HBAGC Focus on Strategy and the Future

December 09, 2010

Home Builders Association of Greater ChicagoKey members of the Home Builders Association of Greater Chicago met earlier this week for a 2011 Strategy and Planning session. This daylong event was full of exciting ideas. It was encouraging to see  so many people attending to offer their positive input and support.

The day started with the team defining who we are, what we do and where we want to go. It was a great exercise to evaluate all our strengths and understand our weaknesses in order to keep the last two years in perspective.

The Home Builders Association of Greater Chicago is a Charter member of the National Association of Home Builders, and is the oldest and strongest home builder’s association in Illinois (currently with the most members). HBAGC serves both City of Chicago Real Estate professionals along with suburban Chicagoland. The strength of that group, the knowledge and passion for the good of the industry and the devotion to the Association were all catalysts in the process of developing a new, true and clear mission statement for the organization.

“The Mission of the Home Builders Association of Greater Chicago is to promote and advance the housing industry by enabling our members, through education and advocacy, to bring quality and value to the consumer. Our members consist of home builders, remodelers, developers, real estate sales professionals, financial specialists and all who participate in housing.”

As the publisher of Chicagoland Real Estate Forum and a managing partner with mRELEVANCE,  I am proud to serve this Association as well as the National Association of Home Builders and several other local Chicagoland HBA’s. I look forward to serving in the role of Communication Committee Chairman for this coming year. Delivering this association’s message to the market is a key to our growth and recovery.

A special thank to Pat Coveny from Arch Construction who volunteered to be the Strategic Plan Monitor. Pat will make sure we keep the momentum and drive full speed toward a successful 2011. As the association is volunteer driven, it is important for people interested in the industry to step up and get involved. If you are not a member of HBAGC or are a member looking for a way to help, step up. Take that first step. It is as simple as contacting me. I am happy to help you get involved. It will benefit you just as much as it will the Association!

It’s great that HBAGC is being proactive and meeting to discuss strategy. Can you tell us what sorts of topics were covered and what exciting plans are in the works?

Some of the topics that were talked about were building back a stronger member base (knowing that this association still is the largest in the state), revitalizing the committees and councils (like the sales and marketing, young builders, communications, etc.) and also creating a better strategy to communicate the associations message, current stability and value to its members and consumers.

There are a lot of exciting plans in the works, some of which are education and participating with other associations and organizations for events, along with HBAGC only events and networking possibilities. There were several great ideas discussed about where to go next and what to do first. Join one of the committees and get involved to help drive some of these plans. You will be glad you did!
