December 17, 2010

How do you heat your Chicago home?

If it’s with an electric heater from Walmart, there is an important recall you should know about.

Wal-Mart Stores has recalled about 2.2 million electric heaters following reports of burn injuries and property damage from fires.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has announced the recall of these heaters:

The heaters were sold at Walmart stores nationwide from December 2001 to October 2009. They reportedly can malfunction, causing overheating, smoking, burning, melting and fire.

The 1,500-watt heaters are gray with a metal handle on the top and vents and gray control knobs on the front. They were sold for about $18 apiece and have the model number 1013 on a label on the lower left corner of the back panel.

If you have this heater, stop using it immediately and return it to Walmart for a full refund.
