2011-12 Chicago Vehicle Sticker Unveiled

December 19, 2010

You will soon be able to see the artwork of a 17-year-old student driving all over Chicago.

Suthida Lertpanichphan, a Thai immigrant who has been in Chicago for only a year, has won the 16th annual Vehicle Sticker Art Design Contest.

The St. Gregory the Great junior’s design was one of nearly 400 entrants from 50 Chicago high schools. Voters chose her design out of 10 finalists online as the winner.

Her design shows two students flying on a book with the theme of the contest written on the bottom: “Education is Key.” The theme was designed to remind students of the importance education plays in their lives.

Lertpanichphan will receive a $1,000 savings bond from City Clerk Miguel del Valle. Her artwork will grace the 2011-2012 city vehicle sticker.

The second-place winner will receive a $500 savings bond, and the third-place winner will get a $250 savings bond. The seven remaining finalists each receive a $100 savings bond.

The new city vehicle stickers will go on sale in June.

And now you know who created it.
