Recycling Your Holiday Tree Would Be Mulch Appreciated

Wouldn’t it be cool if the mulch you use in the garden of your Chicago home had once been once a Christmas tree?

christmas trees designed as a recycle signFrom Saturday, January 1 through Monday, January 17, Chicago residents can bring their holiday trees to one of 23 participating locations in the city to be recycled.

The trees will be chipped and made into mulch. The mulch will be available for pick-up starting on Friday, January 7 at those same sites.

Make sure you remove everything from the tree before bringing it in, including all ornaments, garlands, lights and stands.

*Forestry Site: 900 E. 103rd St.

*Garfield Park: 100 N. Central Park Ave.

*Grant Park: 900 S. Columbus Dr.

*Humboldt Park Boathouse: 1369 N. Sacramento Blvd.

*Jackson Park: 6300 S. Cornell Ave.

*Kennedy Park: 11320 S. Western Ave.

*Kelvyn Park: 4438 W. Wrightwood Ave.

*Lake Meadows Park: 3117 S. Rhodes Ave.

*Lincoln Park: Cannon Dr. at Fullerton Ave., parking lot east of Cannon Dr.

Drop off your burnt-out, broken and outdated holiday string lights to one of the participating locations to be recycled from now through January 18.
