Letters After a Real Estate Pro’s Name Spell Respect

February 19, 2011

February is National Designation Month, a time to focus on continuing education in the housing industry.

Sponsored by the National Association of Home Builders, the ninth-annual event pushes NAHB members to enhance their credibility by furthering their education and earning a professional designation.

“Obtaining a designation adds some credibility to builders. It provides a third-party endorsement that says, ‘I’m not doing this just as a job, I’m doing it as a profession,’” said Jim Carr, a Graduate Master Builder (GMB), Certified Green Professional (CGP), professor at the University of Arkansas and NAHB Education instructor.

Earning an NAHB professional designation can help to improve business skills and advance careers in the home building industry.

But not only professionals are targeted in this campaign.

National Designation Month, which recognizes outstanding achievements by building professionals, also aims to educate homeowners and home buyers on how to select builders, remodelers and other industry professionals with NAHB designations.

Available designations include:

*Certified Active Adult Specialist in Housing (CAASH)

*Certified Aging-In-Place Specialist (CAPS)

*Certified Graduate Associate (CGA)

*Certified Graduate Builder (CGB)

*Certified Graduate Remodeler (CGR)

*Certified Green Professional (CGP)

*Certified New Home Marketing Professional (CMP)

*Certified New Home Sales Professional (CSP)

*Graduate Master Builder (GMB)

*Graduate Master Remodeler (GMR)

*Housing Credit Certified Professional (HCCP)

*Master Certified New Home Sales Professional (Master CSP)

*Master Certified Green Professional (Master CGP)

*Master in Residential Marketing (MIRM)

*Residential Construction Superintendent (RCS)

If nothing else, at least we now know what all those letters stand for after real estate professional’s names.
