It’s Prep-For-Spring Weekend in Chicago

March 04, 2011

There are some events going on in the city this weekend that will have you thinking Spring, including one in which you better think warm thoughts or you’ll freeze your patootie off.

The 2011 Chicago Flower & Garden Show opens at Navy Pier on March 5. It’s such an exciting event that we decided to write an entire story on it. Check back to Chicagoland Real Estate Forum on Saturday for all the wonderful details.

packets of seedsGot too many edible seeds? Swap them!

Most seed packets are meant for large gardens and contain tons of seeds, but many Chicago gardens only need a few to grow crops. Don’t let those extra seeds go to waste.

The Peterson Garden Project is hosting a Seed Swap on Sunday. The event will give you a chance to share your excess seeds with other gardeners while finding some new varieties for yourself.

New gardeners are welcome: There will be seed giveaways so you can swap away!

What: Peterson Garden Project — Edible Seed Swap

When: Sunday, March 6; 4 to 6 p.m.

You better be thinking Spring if you participate in the 11th Annual Chicago Polar Plunge.

On the first Saturday of the month, all Chicago area Home Depot stores host Kids Workshops for future homeowners ages 5 to 12.

The workshops teach kids do-it-yourself skills and tool safety and offer a sense of accomplishment.

This Saturday, the kids will make The Home Depot #20 Race Car, with which they can play outside in the Spring. (Had to keep this article’s theme going!)

When they’re done, they’ll bring home this new toy they made by themselves, as well as a kid-sized work apron and an achievement pin.

What: Kids Workshop

Where: All area Home Depot stores

When: Saturday, March 5; 9 a.m. to noon

Cost: Free!
