Love Chicago Sports? Check Out The Flower Show!

March 05, 2011

Are you ready for Spring? Get a taste of it this week inside Navy Pier, regardless of what it feels like outside.

The 2011 Chicago Flower & Garden Show is set for March 5-13 along Chicago’s lakefront.

The show’s theme, “The Sport of Gardening,” incorporates Chicago’s great sports teams and legends and urges professional and amateur green thumbs alike to see gardening as a sport.

Chicago’s great teams — the Bears, Blackhawks, Bulls, Cubs and White Sox — will serve as themes for several of the gardens created by top landscape designers. There will also be a memorabilia garden and a tribute garden.

Terry Guen Design Associates, the acclaimed Chicago-based landscape architecture and urban design firm, set up the show to give it an urban city feel.

At the show, you’ll find:

*A vendor Marketplace with green products and services by more than 100 exhibitors.

*Over 50 educational speakers on hand covering a wide range of topics at free seminars

*A Kid’s Activity Garden

*Daily chef cooking demonstrations

*Potting Parties

*A Men’s Lounge sponsored by Dish Network

*A chance to meet and greet players and mascots from Chicago sports teams throughout the week

NAR busOther events specifically scheduled:

*Saturday, March 5: To tout the benefits of owning Chicago real estate, the National Association of REALTORS’ Home Ownership Matters bus tour will be at the show from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

*Saturday and Sunday, March 5-6: Various cast members will be on hand from NBC’s soap opera, “Days of our Lives.”

*Sunday, March 13: Chicago will host its own “Cake Boss Competition,” in which the finest decorators from the Chicago area will compete to create garden- and sports-themed cakes.

Sounds like this show has something for everyone.
