Illinois University Gets Nostalgic During Rehab

March 06, 2011

This one’s for my boss, a very successful U. of I. grad, and anyone else who has fond memories of living in Illini Tower.

Illini Tower

The Illini Tower is located two blocks from the University of Illinois Quad.

The four-decade-old residential high rise at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign has been undergoing a $1-million renovation, and now it needs the past to complete it.

Campus Living Villages, which purchased Illini Tower in 2008, is seeking mementos from the property’s 44-year existence to create an archive and display showcasing the dorm’s history on campus.

The group is calling on past residents, staff and friends to submit copies of pictures, documents and anything else that shows life over the years at the popular living place.

The rehabilitation of the new Illini Tower Student Village, a privately owned Certified Housing Facility, is almost complete.

Some of the amenities include:

*Fully furnished suites with great views of the campus (check out the floor plans and prices here)

*A full kitchen and private bathrooms in each apartment

theater room*Free weekly housekeeping services

*Free wi-fi

*A multimedia movie theater

*Play gaming and media lounges on each floor

*A first-floor study lounge with PC and MAC computers and movable walls to create study sessions

*A gym with free weights and cardio machines

*Smart laundry facilities that e-mail or text you when your laundry is finished

Makes you want to go back to college, huh?

~ Time out to reminisce ~

Back to reality: If you have any mementos to contribute, e-mail them to or send them to:
