Chicago Real Estate Leaders Give Back to the Community

March 11, 2011

Did you see last week’s Oscars in Hollywood? How about this week’s Oscars in Chicago real estate?

The 23rd Annual Chicago Commercial Real Estate Awards were presented last night at the Hyatt Regency Chicago.

The awards, considered to be the Oscars of the industry, recognize outstanding architects, designers, developers and brokers and the buildings and projects they create.

Sponsored by the Chicago Sun-Times, Crain’s Chicago Business and Associated Bank, nominees are picked by an industry panel, while winners are chosen via a secret vote by those who purchase tickets to the event.

The dinner raises money for the Greater Chicago Food Depository. This year’s event was attended by hundreds of industry professionals and brought in more than $800,000.

The money is much needed in Chicago right now. According to Kate Maehr, chief executive officer of the Food Depository, November 2010 marked the largest number of monthly applicants for food services in the organization’s history.
