Learn how to Leverage Chicago’s Green MLS

March 13, 2011

Have you heard the Chicagoland MLS now support a Green Addendum? Do you want to know what that means — and more importantly — how to leverage it for your clients?

Join the USGBC – Illinois Chapter’s Chicago Branch for a presentation on the residential green real estate market  We will define what a green home is, talk about implementation on the Green MLS, present some early market research, and talk about valuation and appraisal considerations.  The session will apply to both new and existing green homes.

This class will help real estate professionals (brokers, agents, appraisers, developers) understand the history and fundamentals of green building on a national and local scale. Learn how to properly market homes with green features using latest tools available – setting these homes apart from the competition while being cautious of green washing. Learn more about voluntary certification programs such as: LEED for Homes, NAHB, Energy Star and Chicago Green Homes. As well as opportunities to educate themselves so they stay ahead of the learning curve and remain competitive in this emerging market. Learn more about the current green building initiatives in Chicago and the trends heading our way.

At the end of this program, participants will be able to:

  • Identify third-party verified green home certification programs.
  • Use the green addendum of the MLS to market and search for green homes for clients.
  • Explain the current Chicagoland market for green homes.
  • Recall issues related to green valuation and appraisal.
