President’s Re-Election Campaign Begins Today

April 04, 2011

We misinformed you.

It was in our story:

Obama to Campaign from Chicago Real Estate Skyscraper

The title is correct. President Barack Obama will set up his 2012 re-election campaign headquarters at One Prudential Plaza, 130 E. Randolph in Chicago.

We told you that the headquarters is not up and running yet. That’s also true.

But where we went wrong was reporting the rumor that Obama would announce his re-election bid around April 14, when the President will be in Chicago to attend a Democratic fundraiser.

Instead, President Barack Obama launched his campaign today.

He did it in the same way he announced in 2008 that he wanted to be president of our country: He launched a video.

At some ridiculous Chicago hour (between 4 and 5 a.m.) Obama had an e-mail sent out to supporters that, in part, stated:

“Today, we are filing papers to launch our 2012 campaign.

We’re doing this now because the politics we believe in does not start with expensive TV ads or extravaganzas, but with you — with people organizing block-by-block, talking to neighbors, co-workers, and friends. And that kind of campaign takes time to build.

So even though I’m focused on the job you elected me to do, and the race may not reach full speed for a year or more, the work of laying the foundation for our campaign must start today.”

With the e-mail came a 130-second video entitled “It Begins With Us.”
