Hiring Day Continues Under the Golden Arches

April 18, 2011

We often talk about the correlation between the employment rate and the recovery of the Chicago real estate market, so if you are one of the unemployed, this one’s for you.

Oak Brook-based McDonald’s Corp. hosted its first national hiring day on April 19 with 50,000 slots to fill nationwide and around the Chicago area. The company will continue to take applications on Wednesday, April 20, as well.

“We believe the best people in the world work right here,” says the company’s Careers website. “And we believe you could be one of them. You’ve got enthusiasm, responsibility and drive. We’ve got flexible schedules, benefits and jobs that can turn into satisfying careers. It’s a perfect match.”

Company officials say they will be hiring about three to four new people per restaurant, and that there are corporate opportunities as well.

More than 50 percent of McDonald’s owner-operators started behind the counter, as did more than 75 percent of the restaurant’s managers.

McDonald’s held a hiring event out West last year. More than 60,000 people applied for 13,000 positions at that fair.

If you think you fit the McDonald’s bill, you can apply in stores or online at mcdonalds.com/careers.

Some restaurants will be hosting hiring events at their stores, so check around.

And, if you get a job there, will you suggest for me that they add a veggie burger?

By the way, if McDonald’s isn’t for you but you are still seeking employment, I found this great website that lists upcoming job fairs. Check out chicagojobresource.com.

Good luck!
