Celebrate the London Wedding in Your Chicago Home

April 27, 2011

Have you been counting down the hours to the royal wedding?

More than a billion people are expected to watch the nuptials of Prince William and commoner Kate Middleton at Westminster Abbey in London on Friday morning.

And, believe it or not, many local residents are hosting wedding parties right here in their Chicago homes.

“We will have tea and canap├ęs served on my grandmother’s priceless china,” said Chicago resident Jamie Ruskin, who took off work on Friday in honor of the wedding. “It’s going to be caffeinated tea, because my party is going live.”

The wedding is set for about 5 a.m. Chicago time, but many TV stations will begin coverage hours before.

To make your party official, take a trip to at Eli’s Cheesecake, 6701 W. Forest Preserve Dr, Chicago. The company is offering a Royal Wedding Cake Do-It-Yourself Kit so commoners like Jamie can seriously celebrate in style.

Eli's wedding cake kitThe $60 kit includes:

*One 9-inch original plain cheesecake, pre-iced with buttercream frosting

*One 6-inch original plain cheesecake, also pre-iced

*One 3-inch chocolate biscuit cake for the top

*2 pounds of buttercream frosting in a piping bag

*3 yards of shimmery quarter-inch ribbon

*A heart-shaped white chocolate plaque

*1 ounce of edible pearls

*Instructions for putting it all together and for further decorating

That chocolate biscuit cake is apparently one of William’s favorites. His mom, Princess Diana, used to bake it for him, and he requested it as the Groom’s Cake for his wedding.

You can pick up a cake kit at Eli’s through 5 p.m. on April 29. For more information, call (773) 205-3800 or visit elicheesecake.com.

If you are watching the wedding live, make sure you get the cake in advance. Eli’s isn’t open at 3 a.m.
