You have a home. Why not open it up to an animal in need of one?

On Saturday, April 30 and Sunday, May 1, more than 2,000 animal shelters around the world will kick-off a month-long effort to save as many pets’ lives as possible.

This is Addison, a shelter dog that was to be euthanized til we gave her a home. Your turn.

Renowned dog behavior expert Cesar Millan is the spokesperson for the 17th annual Pet Adoptathon, a global adoption extravaganza.

“By building on children’s unique affinity for animals we aim to encourage a deeper understanding of their instinctual selves and in turn develop social and emotional skills that will help them to display compassion and understanding in all areas of their lives,” he said.

North Shore League America in New York will open at 9 a.m. on Saturday and stay open for 36 straight hours.

There are tons of animal shelters and rescue organizations around the Chicago area that are participating in this important cause. For a list, call (800) 214-4308 or visit adoptathon.animal-league.org.

By the way, the little picture next to the headline with this story on the Chicagoland Real Estate Forum front page is Addison today, all grown up and doing great.
