Color is in Bloom at Chicago Conservatories

May 28, 2011

Weather has certainly hindered growth around the Chicago area this Spring, so if you are in need of a burst of color, you’ll be thrilled to know that there are two different Chicago venues in which to check out this year’s Tropical Flower Show.

beautiful pink flowersThe free shows, which open May 28 and run through September 25, feature many colorful tropical plants in bloom at the Garfield Park and Lincoln Park Conservatories.

On Saturday, May 28, the jazz trio Sizzlejamjuice, three students from the Chicago Academy for the Arts, will play from 1 to 3 p.m. in the Show House of the Garfield Park Conservatory to celebrate the opening of the show.

Flower shows have been presented by the Chicago Park District for more than 90 years, beginning when the Garfield Park Conservatory first opened in 1908.

This year’s shows should be spectacular, and a nice break from all the brown mud that seems to have accumulated around my Chicago real estate.
