May 31, 2011

It’s that time of year again, Chicago residents: Time to get your city vehicle stickers and residential parking passes.

Chicago’s city stickers are available almost a week earlier than last year and can be purchased online.

Chicago City Clerk Susana Mendoza is strongly encouraging residents to buy their city vehicle stickers, annual residential parking and daily guest passes online at, and she has even created an incentive to do it.

Obviously this is not what your 2011-2012 sticker will look like: Chicago has a new mayor and city clerk!

Ten motorists who buy their stickers online will win a catered lunch and tour of City Hall hosted by Clerk Mendoza.

“More than 1.3 million vehicle stickers are sold each year. I want to continue to work to make the process of buying your city sticker as easy as possible. Purchasing it online is simply the most convenient way to buy your sticker — it only takes a few minutes and there is no additional fee to buy your sticker online,” said Clerk Mendoza. “Last year more than 221,000 people bought their city stickers online. We hope to reach an ambitious goal of selling 25% of our city stickers online this year!”

Your 2010 – 2011 city vehicle sticker expires on June 30, 2011. Chicago does allow for a 15-day grace period before residents must display their 2011-2012 vehicle sticker.

Enforcement begins July 16 and the penalty is $120.

At least sticker prices didn’t change:

*Annual vehicle stickers are $75 for a passenger vehicle and $120 for a large passenger vehicle.

*Annual residential parking is $25.

*A set of 15 daily guest passes for parking is $8.

Senior residents ages 65 and older are eligible for one reduced rate vehicle sticker at $30.

New this year: The first time a resident buys 24-hour daily guess passes online, they must do so in conjunction with the purchase of a city vehicle sticker.

Plus, the first time a resident wants to buy guest passes without also purchasing a vehicle sticker, they must do so in person. After that initial buy, the resident can buy guest passes online and without purchasing an annual vehicle sticker.

If you don’t want to buy your city sticker online, walk-in sales begin June 1 at:

*City Hall, 121 N. LaSalle St., Room 107

*City Clerk Satellite Offices at 5430 W. Gale St. or 5674 S. Archer Ave.

*Department of Revenue Substations

*More than 400 community vendor locations.

There are also selected days to purchase stickers at Alderman offices.
