Remember Us When You’re Famous

June 17, 2011

You know Chicago Real Estate Forum loves to tell its readers about job opportunities, especially when they’re fun ones.

The Illinois town of Plano will become a Kansas farm town in the new "Superman" movie.

“Superman: Man of Steel” is being filmed in the Chicago area this summer, and Warner Brothers is looking to hire paid extras.

Filming of the “Superman” sequel will take place in Naperville, Plano and Chicago, and that’s exactly where the casting calls are being held over the next week.

The director is looking for men, women and children (you must fit in there somewhere) to be “paid extras, stand-ins and photo doubles.”

Here is the lowdown on the upcoming casting calls:

* * *

When: Saturday, June 18; 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Where: DePaul University’s Naperville Campus, 150 West Warrenville Rd., Naperville

* * *

When: Wednesday, June 22; 6 to 8 p.m.

Where: Plano High School Gymnasium, 704 West Abe Street, Plano

* * *

When: Saturday, June 25; 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Where: Chicago Academy for the Arts, 1010 West Chicago Ave., Chicago

There is no need to prepare anything and you do not need to bring a photo to the casting call. You can apply online in advance at afbackground.com.

When you visit the casting call website, you won’t see the Superman logo (though the words ‘Casting Call’ look like it), instead you’ll see the title “Autumn Frost.” It is normal for production companies to use a code name on major movie productions, and this one is no different.

“Superman: Man of Steel” has an estimated budget of $175 million and will hopefully pump up the local economy, much like the “Transformer” sequel of last summer did.

It is believed that the city of Plano will play the role of Smallville, the Kansas farm town where Superman grew up. Henry Cavill will be Superman and his parents will be played by Kevin Costner and Diane Lane.

The film is slated to be released at the end of next year.
