Job Opportunities Around Chicago

To our Chicago real estate friends searching for employment in this economy; there are some job fairs this week to share with you.

Before you go to a job fair, make sure you are dressed professionally, have lots of copies of your resume on hand, and are prepared to share an interesting tidbit about yourself so people will get to know you and you’ll stand out.

ABC-7 Chicago is reporting that the Rainbow PUSH Coalition is hosting a Job Fair today and tomorrow to help those in Chicago’s African-American community find work.

The Rainbow PUSH organization says that the employment rate for African-American men is at a 40-year low and that only about 57 percent over the age of 20 have jobs.

According to the Illinois Department of Employment Security (IDES), the Rainbow PUSH Job Fair is open to the general public and is scheduled for Monday and Tuesday, June 20-21, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Chicago Hilton, 720 S. Michigan Ave., Chicago.

Michael Jordan is opening a Steak House and is hiring.

The job fair, which is for a variety of positions including dishwashers, servers, sous chefs and restaurant manager, is scheduled for Tuesday, June 21 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and from 4 to 7 p.m.

The fair will be located in the Valencia Ballroom of the InterContinental Hotel, 505 North Michigan Avenue, Chicago. Use the upper Illinois Street entrance and not the Michigan Avenue main entrance.

A Professional and Executive Career Fair for applicants with a four-year degree is set for Thursday, June 23, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Chicago Hilton, 720 S. Michigan Ave., Chicago.

Positions are available in sales, finance, health care, education, software, media and more.

Some of the employers that will be on hand include Wal-Mart, U.S. Department of State, Jewel Osco, CDW Corporation, Chicago Zoological Society, Verizon Wireless, Wirtz Beverage Group and Northwestern Mutual.

Chicago’s 25th Ward Alderman Danny Solis is holding a job fair on Thursday, June 23 from 9 p.m. to 3 p.m. at West Side Technical Institute (WSTI), 2800 S. Western Avenue, Chicago.

This job fair is an attempt to connect Chicago residents with local employment opportunities.
