Chicago-Area Pyramid a Home to See

June 26, 2011

A bizarre piece of metro Chicago real estate is open for business.

The Gold Pyramid House, located in northern Wadsworth at 37921 Dilleys Rd., is a 55-foot-tall, 17,000-square-foot home that is located on an island and surrounded by a moat.

The pyramid-shaped home, located about an hour outside of Chicago, is believed to be the largest 24-karat gold-plated object in North America. The replica statue next to it of Ramesses II is larger than the original in Egypt. The natural spring the home sits on is so pure that that water has been bottled and sold. The interior walls are filled with hand-painted hieroglyphics.

Visitors can now tour the property and first two levels of the six-story home, see a replica of King Tut’s tomb and hear a presentation on the pyramid and its history.

Improvements at the private residence include a conference room and event space, including rentable space for up to 150 people.

So, if you ever wanted to get married in Egypt, this could be the next best thing.

Jim and Linda Onan built the home in 1977 after reading that pyramids generate energy. The owners are hoping to someday include an exhibit on the power of pyramids.

The home’s website, goldpyramid.com, says visitors can tour the home on Sundays at noon at a price of $20 for adults and $10 for children ages 10 and under. An on-site gift shop should satisfy all your Egyptian needs.
