New Paint Suitable for Allergy Sufferers

July 03, 2011

If you are getting ready to paint your interior walls and someone in your family has asthma or allergies, there’s a new product that will work well in your home.

Valspar Paint has released Valspar Plus, the first paint certified asthma & allergy friendly by the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America (AAFA).

“In listening to our consumers, we recognized an opportunity in the marketplace for a paint formulated specifically to address the needs of the approximately 60 million Americans who live with asthma and allergies,” said Howard Heckes, senior vice president, Valspar Global Consumer. “In response, we developed Valspar Plus®, which allows people with respiratory sensitivities to connect to the transformative power in color.”

Valspar Plus reduces airborne irritants during painting, which improves the painting process for painters with respiratory issues. The paint has no volatile organic compounds (VOCs), which can be a trigger for people impacted by asthma and allergies, and no lingering odor.

And, once it dries, the company says the paint’s antimicrobial properties help it to resist mold and mildew.

“We put this paint through rigorous testing protocols and are confident in its benefits for those suffering with respiratory sensitivities,” says Mike Tringale, vice president of External Affairs at AAFA.

“As the first paint we have certified as asthma and allergy friendly, families can now reduce indoor irritants, like VOCs, without compromising on color choices or a premium quality finish.”

Valspar Plus is a one-coat, stain-resistant paint that is covered by a lifetime warranty and is washable once dry. It’s available in flat, satin and semi-gloss, and can be found at Lowe’s, which is offering a coupon of $10 off every $50 you spend on your next painting project through July 11.
