Gerstad Builders Offers Back to School Tips For Families

July 31, 2011

Back to school tips for McHenry residentsEverywhere you look, you can still see the signs of summer. T-shirts and shorts, flip flops, blooming flowers and sunny skies abound. However, soon shorts will give way to long pants and t-shirts to sweaters. The bloom will leave and a chill will fill the air. And, you know what that means: school will be back in session.

While you’re children start sharpening those pencils, packing their book bags and heading out the doors of their McHenry, Williams Bay, Poplar Grove or Richmond new homes to head for the school bus, you’re worried about keeping them safe this school year. However, it takes more than booster shots and checkups to prepare your children for a healthy year.

Below are some tips to help your children have a fun and safe school year:

  1. Get plenty of sleep. Extended daylight hours and fun outings have kept your children up a little past their bedtimes this summer. But, one of the most important ways to keep your children safe this year is making sure they get plenty of sleep. That means 10 to 11 hours a night for elementary school children.
  2. Eat healthy meals. Breakfast is your child’s most important meal because it sets the tone for the rest of the day. However, you may also find that a new environment, new friends and a shorter lunch period will cause your children to eat less at lunch. Make sure your children have the nutrition they need to do well.
  3. Make time for play. Your children saw no shortage of exercise during the summer, but once they enter school they will be spending most of their time at desks. Recess and P.E. may not give them the physical activity required to keep them healthy and happy. Make sure your children get at least 20 to 30 minutes of regular, nonstop exercise a day.

Are you concerned with giving your children space to sleep, preparing healthy meals and providing a place for afternoon play? Our new McHenry County real estate will do just the trick.
