Foreclosure Prevention Events Can Help

According to Realty Trac, while the national rate for foreclosure filings in July was one in every 611 homes, it was one in every 401 households in Cook County.

Don’t become part of the statistics. There are a several upcoming workshops that can help you save your home.

Wednesday, September 14, 6:30 to 8 p.m.: The Lakeside Community Development Corporation (CDC) is hosting a Save Your Home Seminar at 6636 N. Clark Street, Chicago.

The HUD-approved housing counseling agency will have representatives on hand to teach you:

*How to apply for a loan modification or refinance.

*How the Cook County Foreclosure Mediation Program works.

*About renter’s rights during foreclosure.

*How to avoid scams and more.

Wednesday, September 21, 5 to 8 p.m.: Housing counselors from the Illinois Attorney General’s office will be assisting struggling homeowners at the Bernard Horwich Jewish Community Center, 3303 W. Touhy Avenue, Chicago.

Homeowners can meet one-on-one with counselors to learn about foreclosure prevention options, including loan modifications.

September 14, 21, 24, 28: The Neighborhood Community Foundation will be providing three upcoming foreclosure prevention workshop:

*September 14, 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., at the Comfort Suites, 1100 E. Higgins Road, Schaumburg.

*September 21, 7 to 9 p.m. at the Holiday Inn & Suites, 205 Remington Blvd., Bolingbrook.

*September 24, 2 to 4 p.m. at the North Riverside Library, 2400 S. Des Plaines Ave., North Riverside.

*September 28, 7 to 9 p.m. at the Hilton Garden Inn, 7675 Walton St., Rockford.

Other upcoming foreclosure prevention seminars:

*September 22-24: Bank of America is hosting a “Save Your Home” event for its customers.

*October 15: The Neighborhood Housing Services of Chicago will be holding a “Fix Your Mortgage” event.

*October 22 and October 29: Attorney General Lisa Madigan’s office will be running an event like the one on September 21.
