Home Show, Free Food, Casting Call Highlight the Weekend

September 30, 2011

Earlier today, Chicago Real Estate Forum told you about Design Harvest, a street festival in Chicago’s West Town neighborhood this weekend that focuses on interior home design.

There’s a free home show event in the suburbs this weekend, too.

The 6th annual Home Improvement and Remodeling Expo will set up shop this Saturday and Sunday in the northwest suburb of Hoffman Estates.

This free event will give homeowners an opportunity to talk with contractors and vendors to discuss home improvement projects face to face.

There will be hundreds of exhibits from some of the best local and national home improvement and landscaping companies that cover everything from basic services to high-end building construction.

The event will also include live entertainment, food, kids activities, promotions, giveaways and celebrity appearances.

The Expo will take place at the Prairie Stone Sports and Wellness Center, 5050 Sedge Blvd., Hoffman Estates, on Saturday, October 1 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and Sunday, October 2 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

For more information, visit or call (630) 468-2237.

Here are some more activities going on around Chicagoland this weekend:

Recycle With Ronald: Bring your scrap metal to be recycled and help support the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana. The metal donated at this year’s 7th annual event will help construct the new Ronald McDonald House in Chicago’s Streeterville neighborhood, which will be the world’s largest location with 86 rooms. Taking place at United Scrap Metal, 1545 S. Cicero in Cicero, this event will include free food, facility tours, kids activities and an appearance by Ronald on Saturday, October 1 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Ravenswood ArtWalk: More than 250 artists will have their works on display at this 10th annual free event, which will also include music, food, kids activities and a live graffiti wall. A free trolley ride will take participants on an architectural tour as well. Hours are 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, October 1, and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday, October 2 on Ravenswood Avenue between Addison and Lawrence along the historic Ravenswood Corridor.

Cultivate Chicago: Chipotle Mexican Grill is hosting its first-ever free festival featuring art, live music and food from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, October 1 at 1600 N. Stockton Drive in Chicago’s Lincoln Park neighborhood. The first festival of its kind will bring together celebrity chefs, farmers, thought leaders and musicians to raise awareness on the impact food has on society. Proceeds from the food sales benefit

Real World: One of television’s original reality shows, “The Real World,” is looking for personalities in Chicago on Saturday. Casting directors from the MTV show will be at Dave and Buster’s, 1030 N. Clark, Chicago, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on October 1 in search of people in their 20s for next year’s Season 27. Bring with you a photo id and a photo of you for them to keep.

If you would rather watch the Chicago area on screen, there’s a new horror movie coming out this weekend that was filmed outside of the city. We’ll talk all about that tomorrow, so check back in.

Have a great weekend!

The Ravenswood Art Walk is always a good time (and a good excuse to head over to the Globe Pub on Irving for a couple drinks)!
