Free Tour of Green Chicago Homes Today

October 01, 2011

You have been thinking about making some environmentally friendly changes to your Chicago real estate. Wouldn’t it be nice to talk to other homeowners who have already done it?

You can do just that during the 5th annual Illinois Solar Tour today, October 1.

Our apologies to our RSS Feed subscribers, who won’t get this message into their inbox until after the fact. We just learned about this event and couldn’t resist sharing it, even if it is in the eleventh hour.

This energy-efficient home at 1610 N. Honore in Chicago is part of the Illinois Solar Tour.

The Illinois Solar Tour is a free, self-guided event that will show participants how Illinois homes are becoming more energy independent.

Renewable energy system homeowners and installers will be providing the tours and will be on hand to answer questions on how you can use the power of the sun and wind to fuel your home and save energy and money.

The tour, organized by the Illinois Solar Energy Association, is part of the American Solar Energy Society’s National Solar Tour, “the world’s largest grassroots solar event.” More than 160,000 participants are expected to visit close to 5,500 properties in 3,200 communities across the country today.

The Illinois Solar Tour includes 53 homes throughout Chicago and its suburbs. You can check out the map of local property sites and tour what you want from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, October 1.
