Is Cub Selling Metro Chicago Real Estate an Omen?

Carlos' home for sale

506 Edgewood Place, River Forest

Is this a sign from Carlos Zambrano that he expects to not return to the Chicago Cubs next year?

The pitcher, who was suspended for the season in August after he left the ballpark during a particularly frustrating game, has put one of his two Chicago-area estates up for sale.

The 4,000-square-foot home, located adjacent to a natural forest preserve at 506 Edgewood Place in River Forest, is listed at $969,000.

A wonderful wall of windows

Built in 1999, the home includes five bedrooms, an office and a loft, four bathrooms, a fireplace, vaulted ceilings, a sunken great room with a wall of windows, a three-car garage, a first-floor laundry room and a full, finished basement with a sixth bedroom.

The tax bill on the property was $34,561.52 in 2009.

Zambrano bought the home in 2006 for $1.199 million, so even if he gets his full asking price, he’s looking at a loss.

Seems to me like a motivated move to sell.

But, maybe Carlos still has hopes of returning, because his other piece of Chicago real estate has yet to hit the market.

That abode is a 6,700-square-foot house in Chicago’s West Lakeview neighborhood that he purchased for $2.66 million in 2008.

Carlos Zambrano

Zambrano, 30, is known for his hot temper. During that fateful game on August 12, the 10-year veteran gave up a club record five home runs in four-and-a-third innings and then almost beaned Atlanta Braves’ batter Chipper Jones before he was ejected from the game. He cleaned out his locker, announced he was retiring and left the ballpark.

Besides other multiple ejections, Zambrano, who has spent his career with the Cubs, was forced to attend eight month of anger management following an on-field fight with then-first baseman Derrek Lee in a game against the White Sox.

Personally, I find Carlos to be passionate about the game, and I felt his fury during many an outing this year.
