Mortgage Group to Take Back Industry in Chicago

October 06, 2011

Hosts of a Chicago real estate convention set for this week say their event will be unconventional and rewarding for those in the struggling mortgage industry.

The Mortgage Bankers Association’s 98th annual Convention & Expo will set up shop at the Hyatt Regency Chicago near the Magnificent Mile this Sunday through Wednesday, October 9-12 .

MBA’s President and CEO David H. Stevens and 2011 Chairman Michael D. Berman wrote this about the conference:

“Chicago’s energy is legendary and contagious. But it can’t compare with the energy that the thousands of mortgage bankers who have come here to Chicago have brought with them. We are all here for the Mortgage Bankers Association’s 98th Annual Convention. And as it kicks off here in the Windy City — we are ready to make a statement.

“To put it simply, our industry is ready to tell the world we’re back. We’re back on our feet, and we are ready to rock and roll. Here’s our message: We are tired of letting others define us and say what we can and cannot do to revive our industry. We are taking back the proud mantle of innovation that we earned over decades of helping finance affordable places to live and work for America’s families, its veterans, its immigrants, and its small businesses.”

The event will include tons of educational seminars, a multitude of vendor booths, many networking opportunities and a variety of featured speakers, including:

*Shaun Donovan, U.S. Secretary for Housing and Urban Development

*Ronald Phipps, 2011 President of the National Association of Realtors

*David Axelrod, political consultant and strategist who has served as senior advisor to President Barack Obama

*Charles E. Haldeman, Jr., CEO of Freddie Mac, and Michael J. Williams, CEO of Fannie Mae

The event will also include a Member Appreciation Tailgate Luncheon with former Chicago Bears wide receiver Willie Gault, and a free concert featuring the group Chicago.

“We bet the last time you saw a really good rock band for free was back in college — and you probably don’t remember much about it,” said the MBA officials.

There is still time to register for this unconventional convention. Visit events.mortgage bankers.org.

Those MBA officials think it will be worth your while:

“We are re-declaring ownership of our industry and its future. Starting right here, right now, in Chicago. So feel good about the fact you are going to be a part of this historic convention. It will be remembered as the day that the mortgage banking industry fought for its legacy and restored its pride.”
